Practice Leader

Overview

The Practice Leader provides expert leadership and guidance in alcohol and other drug treatment and harm reduction, contributing to strengthened practice and improved outcomes for children, young people, and their families impacted by substance misuse issues.

This role involves statewide consultation, mentoring, expert advice, and training/education services about the impacts and interface of substance misuse and complex child protection matters to departmental staff and key partners working with children and families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide evidence-based advice on alcohol and other drugs in complex practice matters, ensuring effective and quality child protection services.
  • Analyse performance data to identify trends and issues, considering systemic factors and relationships between measures affecting service delivery.
  • Lead capability development across the state in areas of portfolio responsibility (Alcohol and Other Drugs) through contemporary written practice guidance and learning forums.
  • Offer strategic advice and coaching to Senior Practitioners, Practice Leaders, and regional staff, focusing on improving casework quality and outcomes for children and young people in the child protection system.
  • Implement quality assurance mechanisms to monitor and improve services for children, young people, families, and carers, with a focus on alcohol and other drugs.
  • Develop partnerships to support service delivery, enhance cross-sectoral participation, and statewide coordination of child protection services.
  • Establish systems and standards for effective coordination and delivery of services.
  • Manage multiple projects, including ongoing reform and renewal initiatives.
  • Contribute to implementing the Strengthening Families Protecting Children Framework for Practice, focusing on strength-based practice and appreciative inquiry to deliver quality services about alcohol and other drugs in the child protection context.
