Preservation Specialist

This position offers a unique opportunity to preserve and provide access to significant collections, strengthening information capability and connecting people with our history.
About the RoleThe Archives and Preservation Officer will work under supervision, assisting with accessions and management of physical collections. The role involves developing effective working relationships within Information Management & Technology and collaborating with research and support services across CSIRO.
Key Responsibilities- Provide retention, preservation, storage, and disposal advice and support to client groups and business units.
- Assist in the management of CSIRO's National Records Centre.
- Correct application of security and records access policies.
- Develop new ways of exposing archival records and building engagement with collections.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the storage and disposal of CSIRO records.
- Undertake complex discovery requests from internal and external sources.
- Assist in the destruction of temporary records and transfer of permanent value records to the National Archives of Australia.

Requirements and Qualifications- Relevant qualification or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Demonstrated awareness of protocols, legislation, functional disposal authorities, and standards for archives and preservation.
- Experience in recordkeeping or collection management systems.
- Sound verbal and written communications skills.
- Time management and organisation skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Commitment to a healthy, safe, and environmentally sustainable workplace.
- Manual handling experience and ability to lift and move standard archive cartons.
- Ability to work at heights via a work assistance vehicle.
