About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced safety engineering leader to join our team in Australasia.

Job Description

  • Lead Safety Engineering Capabilities: Oversee the development and maintenance of system safety, safety engineering, and product safety capabilities across our programs.
  • System Safety Program Plans: Develop and maintain system safety program plans and hazard logs, ensuring robust processes and standards.
  • Safety Case Reports: Implement and manage safety case reports to ensure compliance with recognized safety standards and regional regulations.
  • Support Project Teams: Provide technical support to project teams, developing safety engineering plans, identifying resources, and ensuring training.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with program stakeholders and engineering capability managers to advance safety engineering processes.
  • Apply Expertise: Apply expertise in safety engineering to develop safety analyses, guide hazard identification and risk assessment activities, and oversee hazard treatment and verification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Safety Standards: Develop and maintain safety standards and processes that meet Babcock's requirements and regional regulations.
  • Oversee Risk Management: Oversee and maintain system safety program plans and hazard logs, integrating the Hierarchy of Controls framework into our approach to risk management.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, ensuring they have the necessary resources and training to achieve program objectives.
  • Collaborate with Engineers: Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders to advance safety engineering processes and ensure compliance with Babcock's safety policies and regional regulations.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure that products and services adhere to recognized safety standards, aligned with Babcock's safety policies and regional regulations.

Requirements

  • Technical Experience: Significant technical or engineering experience in safety systems, ideally in Defence, Rail/ Transport, Utilities, Oil/Gas, Aviation, or similar.
  • Expertise in Safety Tools: Demonstrated expertise in safety engineering tools and techniques, such as Hazard Analysis (PHA, SRHA, SHA) and use of industry-standard tools like DOORS and BowTieXP.
  • Understanding of Industry Standards: Deep understanding of MIL-STD-882E, DEF-STAN-00-056, DO-178B, and DO-178C standards.
  • Communication Skills: Proven communication skills, detail orientation, and the ability to guide engineering solutions.
  • Qualifications: Accredited engineering degree (Washington Accord) and chartered status in a relevant engineering body.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship: Must hold Australian Citizenship and be eligible to obtain and maintain an Commonwealth Personnel Security Clearance, as defined by AGSVA.

Salary Range

The estimated salary range for this role is $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
