Position Overview:

An outstanding opportunity exists for a highly skilled Gastroenterologist to become part of a distinguished Acute Medicine department as a staff specialist/consultant.

This role is pivotal within the primary referral hospital for the region, ensuring exposure to complex cases and a wide array of clinical experiences.

The responsibilities include managing patient care across various domains such as General Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Chronic Liver Disease, and performing both diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy procedures. Experience with capsule endoscopy is considered beneficial.

The hospital is in search of a proactive and adept medical professional who embraces challenges, viewing them as avenues to improve healthcare within the modern health landscape. The ideal candidate will play an active role in advancing healthcare at both the individual patient and systemic levels.

This 300-bed Tertiary Teaching Facility is celebrated for its acute care services, catering to over 24,000 inpatients and more than 225,000 outpatients annually. The busy Emergency Department, equipped with 43 treatment beds, handles an annual patient volume exceeding 45,000, maintaining an admission rate of 35%. This accredited hospital enjoys a close collaborative relationship with the University of Tasmania through its clinical school.

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Specialist Registration with AHPRA as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Gastroenterology.
  2. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) eligible via the Competent Authority Pathway (training in the UK, USA, NZ, Canada, or Ireland).
  3. Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) assessed by the RACP College as Substantially Comparable will be considered (doctors currently interviewing with RACP may express their interest).
  4. Doctors who will be awarded the fellowship (FRACP) in the upcoming months are encouraged to express their interest.
