We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of News to spearhead our editorial teams in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate newsroom leader with a proven track record of people leadership, collaboration, and vision. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of the evolving digital landscape, the ability to drive impactful news coverage across platforms, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement long-term newsroom strategies to align with organisational goals.
  • Lead, mentor and motivate a diverse team of journalists, editors, camera operators, and producers to foster collaboration and high performance.
  • Drive innovation in multimedia journalism by exploring new technologies and workflows to boost newsroom efficiency and adaptability.
  • Uphold journalistic integrity and responsible journalism by maintaining ethical standards, quality control, and adherence to industry codes of conduct.
  • Manage newsroom budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation for editorial and operational needs.

The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong passion for multimedia journalism, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive change and innovation in the newsroom.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in newsroom people leadership and creating a culture of collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and inspire a diverse team in a high-performance environment.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, journalistic ethics, and compliance requirements.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and operational resources.
  • Deep understanding of multimedia journalism with a vision for multiplatform content distribution.
