Child and Family Practitioner

The purpose of this Child and Family Practitioner position is to provide skilled casework support and supervision to the placement of children in family-based care arrangements and offer outreach-style support to young people in the community.
This role will work in partnership with foster carers, children, government agencies, and stakeholders to develop and implement individualised care plans that meet the required standards of care and give priority to the protection and well-being of children and young people.
This is a permanent full-time position based at our office in Burnie, with a tool of trade vehicle provided.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake child-focused casework practice in partnership with government agencies, children, families, carers, and other stakeholders.
- Work in partnership with carers to understand the impact of trauma, loss, neglect, and abuse on children and young people.
- Apply the CARE model in daily care with children to enable them to learn to trust, form relationships, and gain resilience.
- Build and strengthen carer skills on how to include children and young people in decision-making and support them to reach their potential.
- Perform case management functions as prescribed in specific contracts or funding agreements.
- Negotiate with government agencies to ensure each child or young person receives care that meets their needs for stability.
- A recognised social work qualification with eligibility for membership of the AASW and/or a Bachelor of Psychology or other relevant qualification.
- Experience in the child protection and out-of-home care sector.
- Experience working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective.
- Experience in identifying an individual's strengths and areas for improvement within the context of providing foster care with an emphasis on permanency for children in care.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- A current driver's license.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo probity checks, including a National Criminal History Record Check and hold Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People Registration.
