Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Technical Officer to join our team at Sanitarium. As a key member of our Environmental Team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our treatment processes, while maintaining compliance with environmental licenses and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and manage the operation and maintenance of our trade waste plant, water recycling plant, and other facilities to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Manage and operate our trade waste laboratory, conducting field and laboratory tests, and presenting results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ensure the preservation and maintenance of our activated sludge by regular slide preparation, staining, and observing results under the microscope.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for resource efficiency and environmental improvement, and implement projects to achieve these goals.
  • Work with project teams to identify, investigate, and implement water and wastewater treatment improvement projects.
  • Deliver team and project outcomes within budget, tracking costs and developing effective reporting mechanisms.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Environmental Team on daily operations, and ensure the effective management of employee leave entitlements.
  • Assist the Environmental Manager with implementing contingency plans, and provide advice on the impact of unexpected events.
Requirements:
  • Cert IV in Environmental Management and Sustainability or equivalent.
  • Cert or Diploma in Project Management (desirable).
  • Working knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, standards, regulations, and principles.
  • Working knowledge of Water and/or Industrial Trade Waste treatment.
  • Competency in SCADA systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Pollution incident response experience, including Hazmat.
