Job Description

This permanent Data Scientist role is based in Surry Hills, Sydney, with flexible work-from-home options. As part of the wiq team, you will be embedded in the marketing and media domain, supporting Cartology, our retail media business within the Woolworths Group.

Your key responsibilities will include leveraging Woolworths data assets to develop a world-class retail media analytics capability, enabling Cartology clients with reliable insights on media asset efficacy and recommendations to achieve their goals effectively. You will also focus on supporting internal teams and providing analytics-based innovation opportunities.

You will report to the Data Science Manager and collaborate closely with senior team members to understand value drivers of Cartology assets, assess performance, and identify improvement opportunities through detailed analysis and experimentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement of experimentation frameworks in scale, speed, and quality of insight by choosing appropriate techniques and methodologies.
  • Develop ML models addressing client ad measurement needs, providing recommendations on advertising optimisations to improve campaign results.
  • Generate and communicate insights aligned with business objectives, considering diverse stakeholders' needs and technical understanding of audiences.
  • Identify opportunities in data, model outcomes, and highlight improvements for Cartology campaigns, products, brand targeting, performance, and return on ad spend (ROAS).
  • Take ownership of the end-to-end model development lifecycle, including articulating business problems, data profiling, cleansing, feature engineering, model training and validation, and deployment.
  • Develop, maintain, and govern machine learning techniques for customer journeys, media behavior, and preferences, leveraging structured and unstructured data sets to solve business and client problems.
Requirements

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist with a test-and-learn mindset, able to think critically about underlying business problems and consultatively recommend data-driven approaches. The ideal candidate should have:

  • A background in Statistics or experience in experimental design and research methodologies, including hypothesis testing and statistical techniques.
  • Proven hands-on data science experience, developing models and feature engineering.
  • High-level proficiency in Python and SQL, as well as experience with data visualisation tools like Looker or Tableau.
  • Demonstrable experience working with cloud platforms and associated native tools, such as Google Cloud Platform.
  • The ability to interact and influence a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally.
