About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Collaboration Expert to join our team at the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs. As a key member of our Capability Value Realisation Centre, you will play a critical role in harnessing optimal value from capability endeavours and elevating return on capital investment initiatives.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in collaboration methodologies and techniques, including Design Thinking and Human Centred Design. You will be responsible for leading, co-designing, and facilitating collaborative workshops that address complex organisational problems and elicit active stakeholder engagement.

With your expertise in contemporary leadership skills, personal agility, resilience, and growth mindset, you will work closely with senior executives across the department and the Australian Border Force to embed, grow, and evolve our Collaboration Program.

You will also have a strong leadership role within our section, with an emphasis on autonomy, mastery, and generating a sense of purpose. You will embody the principles of value creation and delivery, professionalism, and quality, as well as continuous improvement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships for the program particularly with senior executives across the department and the Australian Border Force
  • Build collaboration capability by actively coaching others and mentoring junior members of the team to build capability
  • Manage and plan strategic priorities, workflow, and performance of others where necessary
  • Work closely with colleagues to provide a high-quality, professional service that enhances the program's reputation internally and across government
  • Develop and implement initiatives which support continuous improvement and excellence in service delivery
  • Lead the scope, design, and facilitation of collaborative workshops that address complex organisational problems and elicit active stakeholder engagement
  • Co-design effective, 'customer-focused' workshops through early and genuine engagement, professional advice, and the ability to communicate persuasively
  • Utilise industry best practice methodologies and approaches in your own professional practice as well as bringing insight and innovation to the design process to challenge thinking and encourage new approaches to achieving outcomes
  • Coach others in best practice to build capability and embed collaboration excellence into business processes
  • Actively identify opportunities for improvement, considering future needs and the changing strategic operating environment

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Stakeholder engagement skills
  • Leadership, coaching, and mentoring
  • An understanding of contemporary collaboration methodologies and techniques (such as Design Thinking and Human Centred Design) including experience in applying these skills in complex environments - or have the willingness to learn
  • Superior senior relationship management and critical thinking skills
  • Contemporary leadership skills including personal agility, resilience, and a growth mindset
  • Ability to adopt and embed holistic best practice approaches to achieve effective collaboration outcomes
  • The ability to think strategically and identify opportunities for improvement

Salary

The salary for this position is estimated to be between $106,527 and $124,931 per annum, plus 15.4% superannuation, depending on experience.
