
Aboriginal Community Public Health Nurse Position

Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services is seeking a dedicated Public Health Nurse to join their team in Yarrabah, Cairns. As a key member of the community health program, you will play a vital role in improving the health and wellbeing of the local Aboriginal community through proactive, culturally responsive, and evidence-based public health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective public health programs that address the unique needs of the Aboriginal community
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and community members to deliver comprehensive nursing care and services
- Provide education and training on health promotion, disease prevention, and management
- Conduct contact tracing and consultation for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs)
- Work closely with the Community Board of Directors to ensure culturally appropriate and autonomous primary health services
Requirements:
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community control and cultural identity
- Clinical knowledge and expertise in delivering nursing care and services within a primary health care setting
- Interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills capable of influencing outcomes
- AHPRA registration and commitment to complying with Australian Nursing and Midwifery Competencies, Code of Ethics, and Code of Conduct for Nurses
- Availability during clinic hours (8:00am - 4:30pm) Monday to Friday
- Commitment to maintaining ongoing CPR certification and holding a current Queensland driver licence
