Job Description

This role involves managing and administering the department's compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) and the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld). The successful candidate will be responsible for providing independent legal advice and documentation related to commercial and public administration activities of the department.

The position requires comprehensive knowledge and experience in adherence to the provisions of the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld), including relevant decision-making processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality work outcomes within scheduled scope and timeframe.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage requests for legislative and non-legislative access to the department's information and documents, including by subpoena and non-party disclosure.
  • Promote understanding of, and compliance with, privacy principles and provide best practice leadership and advice.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to departmental staff on privacy and RTI principles.
  • Support business areas with the tools required to conduct Privacy Impact Assessments and identify and address privacy risk and mitigation strategies.

Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in adherence to the provisions of the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to apply and interpret legislation.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in simple terms.
  • Experience in conducting Privacy Impact Assessments would be highly regarded.
