Job Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled Forensic Biology Team Member to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in assisting to create an agile and responsive team, responsible for the biological examination and analysis of biological related items of evidence.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the achievement of strategic outcomes in accordance with regulatory frameworks, governance instruments and professional standards.
  • Plan, conduct and coordinate forensic biology investigations, utilizing expertise in molecular biology and forensic science.
  • Maintain currency in biological evidence recovery, DNA interpretation and statistical analysis through ongoing professional development and learning opportunities.
  • Undertake laboratory processes including automated DNA extraction, DNA quantitation, DNA amplification and capillary electrophoresis as required.
  • Utilize National and International DNA Databases to support investigations.
  • Provide expert opinion evidence to legal forums.
  • Provide timely and impartial technical advice to stakeholders and domestic/international law enforcement agencies.
  • Represent the organization in domestic/international forums and advisory groups.
  • Guide, mentor and advise junior trainees as required.
  • Contribute to validation, research and capability development projects.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of quality assurance systems.

Requirements:

  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or contemporary experience and knowledge in the field of molecular biology or forensic science.
  • Has contemporary knowledge and experience in a forensic biology role.
