Job Description

We are seeking an experienced ITS Engineer to join our team on the Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance project.

About the Opportunity

The Victorian Government is upgrading the Eastern Freeway with new express lanes, traffic management technology, and a dedicated busway. This project will improve public transport in Melbourne's east, reducing travel times and benefiting the local community.

Laing O'Rourke is part of the Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance with Major Road Projects Victoria, Symal, Arcadis, and WSP. Our scope of work includes:

  • A new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels
  • Major road and bridge upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road
  • SmarTrafic management technology upgrades
  • New noise protection to meet Victoria's toughest traffic noise standards
  • Upgraded walking and cycling connections, Koonung Creek Reserve, and revitalised wetlands and open spaces
About the Role

The successful candidate will apply engineering concepts to Intelligent Transport Systems, develop solutions within defined technical and budget constraints, and manage construction planning for works. Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying engineering concepts to ITS, technical standards, and analytics
  • Understanding project scope and developing solutions within defined technical and budget constraints
  • Managing short- and long-term construction planning for works
  • Ongoing monitoring and reporting of work progress
  • Supporting site construction crews with work packages and communicating requirements
  • Assisting with technical queries
About You

We are looking for a qualified engineer with a degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering and industry experience in roads, tunnels, rail, metro, or similar. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in maintenance, construction, testing & commissioning of Intelligent Transport Systems, 'hands-on' experience with ITS systems, and strong knowledge of electrical and ITS systems and assets.

Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
