About the Role:
John Holland is seeking an experienced Plant Operations Manager to oversee our NSW and ACT Plant Team, playing a key role within our National Plant Group. The team operates from three workshops in Sydney and the Hunter region, maintaining over 1000 assets. You will lead a team of skilled staff, tradespersons, and support personnel, providing leadership, direction, and support to ensure safe completion of maintenance activities and effective delivery of plant services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and stakeholder management skills to drive the success of the NSW & ACT Plant team.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop strategies that enhance plant and engineering capabilities.
  • Foster strong relationships with customers and project stakeholders, ensuring safe, reliable, and competitive plant services, as well as identifying growth opportunities for the plant business.
  • Cultivate a positive working environment and team culture aligned with John Holland's values, prioritizing safety, continuous improvement, employee engagement, development, and retention.
  • Oversee the NSW & ACT plant P&L, managing annual financial budgets, controlling costs within budget, and delivering accurate monthly reports and forecasts.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance program for all NSW & ACT plant assets, ensuring compliance with Technical Maintenance Plans and achieving required levels of asset reliability and availability.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in leading teams, developing positive team culture, and building team member capability and performance.
  • Strong customer and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse peers and stakeholders to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Experience in leading a team to achieve safe outcomes in high-risk environments such as rail, construction, or mining.
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to lead a business function, implementing strategies to achieve effective financial and commercial outcomes.
  • Experience in managing a portfolio of assets like plant and equipment in heavy industry (e.g., rail, infrastructure, or mining).
  • A thorough understanding of asset lifecycle principles.
  • Tertiary or trade qualifications in a relevant discipline or field (e.g., mechanical/electrical) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • The ability to travel regularly to various sites in Sydney and the Hunter region.
