Job Overview

Centacare North Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation that provides various services including counselling, family support, and education. We are currently seeking a Senior Counsellor to join our team.

About the Role

The Senior Counsellor will take on more challenging clientele where therapeutic interventions are required. You will also provide ongoing mentoring and coaching to junior clinicians. This role involves travel across the region, with an office based in Townsville.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert counselling services to individuals, couples, and families facing various challenges.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify client needs and develop tailored intervention plans.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions to support clients in achieving positive outcomes.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to ensure holistic support for clients.
  • Supervise and guide junior counselling staff, contributing to their professional development.
  • Maintain accurate client records in compliance with organisational standards and relevant legislation.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision sessions and engage in continuous professional development activities.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A relevant tertiary degree in Social Work, Psychology or Behavioural Sciences with minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in delivering evidence-based therapeutic counselling interventions.
  • An understanding of relevant legislation and effective service delivery models.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake risk assessments and capacity to liaise with other agencies.
  • Proof of right to work in Australia and a current Driver Licence.
  • A Disability Worker Screening and a Working with Children Blue Card.
