Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Lawyer/Senior Associate to join our Public Sector team in Brisbane.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a successful and impactful team, recognized for their market excellence. The successful candidate will have the chance to work on various projects with prominent government clients and gain exposure to significant undertakings in Queensland.

The role involves providing advice to government agencies on project planning and acquisition matters, as well as undertaking Land Court litigation. This includes working with experts in diverse fields, such as valuation, town planning, hydrology, forensic accounting, economic need, quantity surveying, and civil engineering.

The type of work we do is broad, and we often advise on issues that require consideration from other practices, including Real Estate, Major Projects & Construction, and Environment & Sustainable Development. If you enjoy working collaboratively and gaining exposure to other practice groups, this role provides an abundance of opportunities.

This is a full-time or part-time opportunity, and we are open to discussing a part-time arrangement that suits your working preferences. You will work closely with another part-time Senior Associate to provide full-time coverage.

Key Responsibilities:
  • A high level of client interaction and exposure to prominent government clients
  • Undertaking advisory work, drafting short-form agreements related to land, and drafting court documents
  • Liaising with clients, experts, and counsel
  • Managing files with the support of junior resources in the team and attending court appearances
  • Briefing and liaising with counsel
  • Collaborating with other practice groups, including Real Estate, Major Projects & Construction, and Environment & Sustainable Development
  • Attendance at mediation, court hearings, and reviews
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least 5 years post-admission experience
  • Experience in planning and acquisition in a private practice or in-house environment (litigation, property, and/or government experience would be advantageous)
  • A naturally collegiate mindset and positive and enthusiastic attitude, which prioritizes respect for peers and collaborative working
  • In addition to this, we're looking for a resilient, self-starter; someone who is able to work autonomously and is focused on attention to detail and providing outstanding service to our clients
Estimated Salary: $150,000 - $200,000 per annum
