School Guidance Professional

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly skilled and empathetic professional to join our school community as a School Guidance Professional. The successful applicant will work closely with students, families, and external services to provide support and guidance in a school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students, triage and assess risk of suicide, self-harm, substance use, and family violence, and support families to access local services.
  • Liaise with external services as an advocate for students and navigate systems to improve their outcomes.
  • Oversee visiting counsellors & programs, manage school uniform ordering and distribution, and collect parent and carer feedback to guide program development.
Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated capacity for high-level communication skills in liaising with and coordinating relevant systems of care.
  • Relevant experience in working with young people and families with complex mental health, trauma, and low socio-economic status.
  • Ability and skills in triaging, crisis counselling, mandatory reporting, documenting and assessing risk of suicide, self-harm, substance use, and family violence.
  • Experience in managing complex caseloads and competing demands.
  • Able to work within a school environment where intuition, initiative, positive communication, organisation skills, and flexibility are required.
