Aboriginal Mental Health Career Opportunity

This role represents an exciting development for mental health services in South Western Sydney to bring together a team of Aboriginal mental health professionals and make a positive impact on the lives of Aboriginal people living with mental illness.

The team will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in acute mental health inpatient units and emergency departments to ensure comprehensive, culturally responsive transfer of care, referral and discharge arrangements are made with and for Aboriginal consumers and carers.

  • Provide culturally safe, recovery-oriented evidence-based assessment and interventions to clients of the mental health service who identify as Aboriginal and their families.
  • Work within the multi-disciplinary team process, undertaking mental health promotion and community liaison tasks in support of the development of culturally appropriate mental health services within the region.

In consultation with regional authorities, undertake further education to develop the necessary competencies of a Mental Health Professional.

Requirements
  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginal person and/or Torres Strait Islander and be accepted in the community as such.
  • Willingness and ability to complete further education in Mental Health or relevant qualification.
  • Possess a valid Australian driver's license.
