About this opportunity
Job DescriptionThe Head of Financial Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for leading the quality service delivery for financial accounting. The position operates with autonomy in carrying out day-to-day accounting functions and responsibilities, providing support to the Chief Finance Officer.
Main Responsibilities- Manage month-end process against agreed timetables and deadlines, ensuring an accurate General Ledger and Asset Register.
- Conduct month-end review and analysis of results, including completion of variance analysis and commentary for management reports.
- Manage and monitor monthly cash flow.
- Review monthly reconciliations of Balance Sheet Accounts.
- Manage delivery of Departmental Heads Reports, including monthly results, forecast, and budget within required timelines.
- Manage preparation of annual statutory accounts and other external reports.
- Manage external audit processes, contribute to internal audit, and ensure compliance.
- Oversee preparation of Business Activity Statements and Fringe Benefits Tax and ensure taxation deliverables comply with relevant legislation and deadlines are met.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Retail tertiary qualifications in finance and accounting and membership of CPA or CA.
- Demonstrated skills and experience as a manager with capacity to work autonomously and as a member of a team to deliver outcomes and solve problems.
- Ability to effectively lead a team to meet deliverables and strive for continual process improvement.
- Proficiency and extensive experience in using accounting system and software packages (including Microsoft Excel & Word).
- Experience with Magiq and Microsoft D365 highly regarded.
- Experience in completion of month end close process, and internal and external reporting.
- Experience in providing coordinated accounting and financial support in public sector.
- Experience in audit processes and compliance reporting in public sector.
