Land Use Planning Coordinator

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Planner to join our team at the Country Fire Authority (CFA). As a key member of our land use planning team, you will play a pivotal role in implementing a new project that aims to reduce bushfire risk in Victoria.
As a Strategic Planner, you will work closely with a small team of land use planning and bushfire specialists to develop and implement planning policies and strategies that support the CFA's mission to protect lives and property.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing planning policies and strategies to reduce bushfire risk in Victoria
- Working with stakeholders to identify and address planning and building issues associated with natural hazards and emergency management
- Providing expert advice on planning and policy matters to support the CFA's emergency management activities
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement planning initiatives that support the CFA's strategic objectives
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Planner who has a strong understanding of the Victorian planning system and provisions, as well as experience in strategic and statutory planning. About youTo be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- Tertiary qualifications in urban or regional land use planning (or similar) and experience in strategic planning (preferred) or statutory planning
- A strong understanding of the Victorian planning system and provisions, settlement and growth planning, planning scheme amendment process, role of referral authorities and planning for natural hazards, including bushfire
- Experience in strategic and statutory planning, including the assessment of permit applications, settlement growth planning, planning scheme amendments and policy development
- An understanding of how to influence and implement planning policy objectives to address planning and building issues associated with natural hazards and emergency management
- Proven knowledge and/or experience of planning for bushfire is preferred
- Ability to work as part of a small team and help others develop land use planning skills
- High level written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to prepare reports, submissions and planning policy
- High level negotiation skills with the ability to influence outcomes and think strategically to develop creative solutions to meet desired outcomes
