About the Role

MEC Mining is a leading technical consulting firm specializing in mining services across the life cycle. We are currently seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our Environmental team.

Key Responsibilities
  • GIS Tasks:
    • Capture, maintenance, model, and analyze spatial information associated with various projects.
    • Operate graphic workstations using a variety of mapping systems to maintain databases.
    • Produce user-defined maps/plans to internal/external client specifications.
    • Liaise and provide technical and specialist advice to staff on data acquisition and mapping requirements.
    • Ensure that project outcomes meet or exceed clients' quality, time, and budget expectations.
    • Contribute to the provision of advice regarding the application of geospatial technologies.
    • Support spatial data management including processing, reformatting, loading, symbolizing.
    • Develop and regularly maintain a GIS data library.
  • Environment Tasks:
    • Draft preliminary project documentation, including initial advice statements, terms of reference, referrals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, environmental management plans, and ecological studies.
    • Undertake research and investigations.
    • Assist with field work when required.
Requirements
  • Highly computer literate and possess excellent GIS and mapping skills.
  • Ability to understand 3D modeling would be advantageous.
  • Well-developed spatial awareness, e.g., ability to efficiently and accurately locate points on maps and import GPS data.
  • Ability to understand spatial relationships and work with data in context, using logic and initiative to solve problems.
  • Ability to use data from different datums and convert data to a consistent (often client-specific) datum.
  • Experience using spatial software.
  • Ability to prepare map layouts to sufficient quality for external publications/reports.
  • Ability to use a variety of GIS software programs.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office package.
  • Flexibility to work on several projects at one time, and adjust work schedules if required.
