English Teacher Opportunity for VCE and IB Streams

We are seeking an experienced English teacher to join our team at a highly regarded International Baccalaureate-accredited Islamic school. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching English to students in years 7-12 in the VCE or IB streams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver engaging lessons that align with the VCE English curriculum, including teaching key concepts, texts, and skills prescribed for years 7-12.
  • Select and teach a range of texts, including novels, plays, poetry, and non-fiction, based on VCAA guidelines.
  • Teach students how to critically analyze texts, exploring themes, characters, literary techniques, and socio-cultural contexts.
  • Develop students' writing skills, including structuring arguments, incorporating textual evidence, and developing critical interpretations.
  • Instruct students in the analysis of language use in various texts, including media articles, speeches, and advertisements.
  • Foster a supportive learning environment, facilitating class discussions, debates, and oral presentations to develop students' oral communication skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Prepare students for VCE English examinations, including the end-of-year exams up to Units 3-4.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, strategies, and best practices for teaching VCE English effectively.
Requirements:
  • Unrestricted working rights in Australia.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, including a 4-year bachelor's degree with a minimum of 1 year of teaching qualifications.
  • Current VIT registration.
  • Willingness to support the school's ethos and Islamic faith values.
  • Proven experience teaching English in an Australian school setting, with VCE experience highly regarded.
  • Ability to provide two education-based references from the last 5 years, including at least one from upper management.
