About the Role

As a Youth Officer with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, you will play a vital role in supporting young people in custody to develop essential life skills and reintegrate into society.

This shift-work based position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young individuals, while working within a secure residential unit of a Youth Justice Centre.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and support young people in custody, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met
  • Respond to challenging situations with empathy and professionalism
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for both young people and staff
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement programs that promote positive behavior and rehabilitation
  • Communicate effectively with young people, colleagues, and external stakeholders
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge
Requirements:
  • Meet citizenship or residency requirements
  • Possess a minimum Provisional 2 NSW driver's licence
  • Hold a valid National Background Police Check and NSW Working with Children Check Clearance
  • Be willing to obtain the 'Provide First Aid Certificate' (HLTAID003)
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and build strong relationships
