About the Role

UGL's Utilities Division is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team in Brisbane or Sydney. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely estimating expertise for current tenders and proposals, focusing on substations. You will utilize UGL's estimating software, CATS, to build estimates across a wide range of tenders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop first principles estimates for labour, plant & equipment, materials, and subcontractor pricing
  • Collaborate with internal technical experts to gather information for tenders
  • Manage the estimate lifecycle, including pricing structure establishment, pricing development, and estimate finalization
  • Prepare final submissions for presentation to clients
  • Consult with operational areas to ensure tender accuracy
  • Ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements for tenders
  • Recommend and update procedures to improve the estimating function
  • Provide budget breakup advice to current projects
  • Maintain regular contact with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure pricing and product availability
About You

This role is ideal for an Estimator with electrical experience at transmission voltage level. You will need to have a keen eye for detail, a focus on accuracy, and effective communication skills. Other requirements include:

  • A degree or diploma in engineering or a relevant trade certificate with experience
  • At least five years of experience in project-related disciplines
  • Experience in establishing estimates for power utilities
  • Experience with estimating substations, switchyards, and transmission lines at transmission voltage range of 66kV to 500kV
  • Experience with Expert Estimation, CCS, or CATS is desirable
  • Willingness to learn and use CATS, as UGL uses this software only
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships

  • The ability to adapt, learn quickly, and apply new skills and knowledge
