College Counsellor

This is a dynamic and challenging opportunity for a registered Teacher or Psychologist to join our team as a College Counsellor. The successful candidate will work closely with our Counselling and Wellbeing teams to support the ongoing development of the psycho-social skills of our students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide counselling for students who are referred for mental health challenges and consult with/refer to external professionals as appropriate.
- Identify and manage students with emotional and behavioural disorders and provide recommendations for support from external specialists when required.
- Promote positive mental health, wellbeing and resilience by providing key programs as appropriate.
- Assist teachers to identify, understand and manage students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Support and collaborate with teachers to deal effectively with student needs.
- Liaise with parents regarding referral and ongoing management of their child.
- Conduct and/or participate in sessions for parents and caregivers outside of working hours and/or term time as required.
- Tertiary qualification in counselling, psychology, social work or related discipline.
- Experience working in a similar position in a school-based environment.
- Expertise in identification, formulation and counselling of students.
- An understanding of the academic and wellbeing needs of students as they relate to the learning and personal growth outcomes for students.
- The ability to develop positive, professional relationships with students, parents and staff and to work as part of a broader Wellbeing team.
- Ability to identify appropriate external professionals for students requiring support.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability and attention to maintaining appropriate record keeping.
