Curtin University is seeking to enhance its capacity and leadership within Education through the appointment of 5 x Continuing Academics, with appointments commencing at Associate Lecturer (ALA) level, who will undertake teaching and research (T&R).
The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high-quality, modern, and innovative teaching and research. Their expertise should encompass how this teaching and research aligns with (a) interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary design and built environment practices, (b) supports students, colleagues, community members, and policy makers in pursuing 'just' sustainability, and (c) works to include language, culture, and pedagogical traditions of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.
The School of Design and the Built Environments' teaching and research focuses on sustainable environments, design thinking and practice-based excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Teach and research across two or more disciplines in the School
- Contribute to curriculum review and renewal
- Develop and implement high-quality teaching and research programs
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the School's research and teaching capabilities
- Contribute to the development of the School's research strategy and goals
- Progress towards a doctoral qualification in relevant discipline(s)
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively as well as a commitment to reflective improvement in teaching delivery
- Experience in teaching, research, and/or professional practice in two or more of the discipline areas in the School of Design & Built Environment
- Demonstrated competency in a range of qualitative and quantitative research tasks
- An understanding of current pedagogical approaches and contemporary professional practice relevant to the discipline(s)
- An emerging research track record/potential to conduct quality research and contribute productively to research teams
- Demonstrated high level organisational skills
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity
- Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position
The School of Design and Built Environment is a collaborative, transdisciplinary, and interdisciplinary teaching and research community that explores and innovates 'just' sustainability across human and more-than-human environments through lenses of design, policy, and practice.
The School is primarily located in the Exchange Precinct on the Perth Bentley Campus, with dedicated learning and research spaces, a makerspace, workspace for staff and industry, as well as retail and exhibition spaces.
The School's goal is to ensure a Curtin education remains relevant and valued by both students and industry. By working closely in partnership with industry in teaching, research, and engagement, the School contributes to the global knowledge economy and future industry leaders.
