Environmental Conservation Specialist

Are you passionate about environmental conservation and looking for a challenging role in land management?
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Environmental Conservation Specialist, where you will play a key role in managing private property inspections, determining the need for legal action, and implementing Council's weed and pest control programs.
As part of this role, you will be responsible for:
- Managing the private property inspection program to identify weed infestations and develop recommendations for control
- Determining the need for legal action under the Biosecurity Act (2015)
- Issuing Weed Control Notices or Penalty Notices to ensure compliance with regulations
- Developing and implementing Council's weed and pest control programs for land under its care, control, and management
- Preparing and maintaining Council's Pesticide Notification Plan and contributing to Council's Biosecurity website pages
- Preparing public education programs, including media releases and publicity, on weeds and pests, their spread, and control methods
- Preparing grant applications to obtain supplementary funds for weed control, including liaising with other coastal Councils
- Preparing reports on expenditure of grant funds and weed control activities
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree in Biosecurity, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Horticulture, or Agriculture, or equivalent
- Extensive relevant experience in the management of pest plants and animals
- A current Class C Driver's Licence
- Industry experience in dealing with vegetation and/or pest animal management using pesticides, biological controls, and other methods
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and understanding of risk management approaches to vegetation and/or pest animal management involving chemicals
- Experience in using computer software and user-level database management
- Experience in managing staff

The estimated salary for this role is $75,000 - $90,000 per annum, based on location and experience.
