Lawyer (Markets Enforcement)

We are seeking a seasoned lawyer to join our team in conducting investigations and litigation leading to enforcement outcomes. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will project manage and contribute to the investigation of suspected misconduct in areas that ASIC regulates.

The Role

The successful candidate will conduct investigative tasks including the analysis of large electronic data sets using specific software, drafting/serving compulsory notices, collecting and reviewing documents. You will also interview and obtain information from a range of witnesses, identify legal issues and provide legal advice in the course of an investigation, including advice as to evidence required to prove contraventions, admissibility of evidence and the use of ASIC's statutory powers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project managing and contributing to the investigation of suspected misconduct in areas that ASIC regulates
  • Conducting investigative tasks including the analysis of large electronic data sets using specific software, drafting/serving compulsory notices, collecting and reviewing documents
  • Interviewing and obtaining information from a range of witnesses
  • Identifying legal issues and providing legal advice in the course of an investigation
  • Compiling briefs of evidence for the CDPP and assisting the CDPP to prepare for and conduct criminal prosecutions
About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a Bachelor's degree in law, admission to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory as a solicitor or barrister and must hold (or be eligible) a current legal practicing certificate from the relevant State law society. You will also possess investigative and analytical skills with experience planning and managing complex investigations and projects through to conclusion.

You will have skills in analysing and interrogating large complex data and evidence, and drive to understand the issues and take appropriate action. You will also have experience effectively presenting complex information to different target audiences through strong business writing and verbal communication skills.

Additionally, you will have experience building and maintaining relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders and professional networks, and demonstrated capacity to use a variety of digital applications for investigative, research and data collation purposes.
