Senior Health and Environmental Specialist

This role is a critical member of the NNSW team, responsible for fostering a culture of health, safety, and environmental responsibility within the Operations leadership team.
The purpose of this role is to coach, lead by example, and implement the company's health, safety, and environment strategy and plans. Based in Tamworth, you will report to the HSE Business Partner Manager and work on a hybrid schedule.
This role will take lead across all health, safety, and environment matters for the portfolio. You will implement business and group-level HSE strategies, programs, and initiatives, developing targeted solutions that lead to continuous and sustainable improvements in HSE performance.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing health, safety, and environment policies and procedures
- Conducting operational risk assessments and identifying suitable controls
- Investigating incidents and root cause analysis
- Developing continuous improvement programs and strategies across the health/safety/environment spectrum
- Traveling around different sites within our Northern NSW Region and Port at Newcastle
About your experience: We are looking for someone with recognised qualifications/formal training in workplace health and safety (WHS) and sound experience operating in an autonomous HSE Business Partner position within a similar business environment (such as supply chain/logistics or manufacturing).
Key skills and experience required:
- Leading/Implementing change through influence
- Prior experience in a HSE role with a proven track record in improving SHE performance in an operational role
- Ability to translate policies into meaningful terms
- Critical risk management and its implementation
- Practical understanding of HSE management, including management systems, risk assessment, accident/incident investigation, Behavioural Based Safety, and Safety Leadership
