The Northern Land Council is undergoing a period of transition, aiming to ensure the delivery of its obligations and support for its seven regions. To achieve this, the Council is seeking a suitably experienced and enthusiastic Program Principal – CALM project to join its highly skilled and engaged Resources and Energy team.
Key Responsibilities- Running the Closure and Legacy Mines Program
- Informing, advising, and advocating on behalf of the NLC, Traditional Owners, and Executive Council within the seven regions on matters associated with mine closure and legacy mining projects
- Evaluating and interpreting environmental assessment and environmental impact studies
- Developing and maintaining strong foundations, focused on good governance, clear strategy, and being a strong voice for constituents
- A solid background and knowledge of the mining industry and associated legislation
- Strong organisational, community, and business management skills and experience that aligns with the NLC purpose and function
- Passion for communities and alignment with the Traditional Owner (TO) centric model
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to establish and maintain outstanding working relationships and trust with key stakeholders
- Bachelor of Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or relevant equivalent qualification
- Minimum of five (5) years' industry relevant experience working in the environmental management of mine closure
- Understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 and other legislation relevant to the land interests of traditional owners and Aboriginal communities, as managed by the NLC
- High level cross-cultural, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively liaise, engage, and coordinate across an array of stakeholders
- This position works closely with the NLC Resource and Energy Branch manager
- Based in Darwin, with regular regional travel
- An annual salary of $130,000 plus 14.5% superannuation and salary sacrificing
