About the Role

Ayan Infotech is seeking a highly skilled MS SQL DBA to join our team in Sydney. As a key member of our database administration team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of our sophisticated database environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and troubleshoot high-priority incidents, high-change tickets, and vendor problem tickets.
  • Ensure timely resolution of open tickets and issues within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Respond to critical SQL DB alerts and take appropriate action to prevent data loss or system downtime.
  • Participate in bridge calls for critical incidents and collaborate with L2/L3 DBAs to resolve complex issues.
  • Verify the integrity of database backups, including full, differential, and log backups.
  • Monitor SQL Server job performance and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to resolve any issues.
  • Perform regular health checks on servers to identify potential issues with space, CPU utilization, and memory.
  • Configure and maintain maintenance plans for backups, database integrity checks, index rebuilds, and statistics updates.
  • Troubleshoot locking issues, including deadlocks, blocking, and lock timeouts, and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Apply performance tuning techniques, including creating missing indexes, to optimize database performance.
  • Work on database refresh and table refresh activities in both Azure and on-premises environments.
  • Install, upgrade, and migrate SQL Servers as needed.
  • Apply patches and service packs for SQL Server and address any resulting issues.
  • Configure and troubleshoot issues with Always On Availability Groups (AG), log shipping, replication, and clustering.
  • Participate in disaster recovery (DR) activities, including AG, log shipping, replication, and clustering.
  • Collaborate with application developers to test, configure, and optimize servers based on application demands.
  • Deploy database objects to Integration, QA, UAT, and Production environments.
  • Experience with SSIS packages and troubleshooting issues.
  • Knowledge of features like query store, SQL audit, resource pools, server-level and database-level encryption, and Azure cloud.
Essential Skills
  • Strong knowledge of database connectivity issues, slow response times, operations timeouts, database incidents, and error resolution.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to traverse infrastructure layers to diagnose issues.
  • Proficiency in writing and troubleshooting shell scripting, SQL, and PL/SQL scripts.
  • Proven experience in automation and orchestration, with a focus on one-touch solutions.
  • Experience with DevOps, Terraform integration with Ansible, and knowledge of shell and PowerShell scripting.
  • Knowledge of Paas database maintenance, Redis, and other related technologies.
  • Strong SQL tuning skills and experience in refactoring SQL queries to improve performance.
  • Cross-functional experience with other RDBMS (Oracle, PostgreSQL) or NoSQL open-source databases is a plus.
