Research Software Engineer - IoT Specialist

The University of Tasmania is seeking a highly skilled Research Software Engineer to join our team. As an IoT specialist, you will contribute to the development of acoustic recognition technologies for low-powered devices in Tasmanian and Victorian forests.

About the Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a leading-edge research project co-funded by Forest and Wood Products Australia and industry partners. You will design and assemble prototype devices from off-the-shelf components, co-design and implement onboard software to manage device behaviour and communication over a LoRa network, and develop a data dashboard with assistance from project partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and assembly of prototype devices from off-the-shelf components
  • Co-designing and implementing onboard software to manage device behaviour and communication over a LoRa network
  • Documenting device and software
  • Developing a data dashboard with assistance from project partners

Requirements

  • Experience in design and implementation of IoT devices, including software stacks
  • Experience in web development
  • Basic knowledge of machine learning
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a research setting
  • Experience deploying IoT devices in exposed environments

What We Offer

Appointment to this role will be at Research Assistant Level 3 and will have a total remuneration package of $99,930 comprising base salary of $85,410 plus 17% superannuation.
