About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Health and Safety Advisor to join our Rail Operations team in Laverton North, VIC.

Rail Operations is an internal business unit within Laing O'Rourke, specialising in rail services. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to delivering high-quality work across Victoria.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collect and present statistics to identify trends in performance for projects and team members.
  • Maintain and monitor key performance metrics for projects and provide regular updates according to business requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise HSE & Rail Safety Plans, ensuring all requirements are established, implemented, maintained, communicated, and understood.
  • Deliver health and safety training to staff and the workforce.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations and reporting.
  • Provide coaching on Health Safety Environmental Management System (HSEMS) and contractual requirements.
  • Carry out HSE inspections and audits, as well as develop and deliver pre-start and toolbox talks.
  • Monitor and conduct regular HSE and Rail Safety governance checks within project sites, including Collective Insights, Positive Investigations, FSRs/SERs, Chain of Responsibility, reporting breaches, and recommending remedial actions.
About You
  • You hold a Certificate IV OHS or higher qualification.
  • You have demonstrated experience assisting supervision and management with HSE issues/action closeout within the workplace.
  • You are effective in managing site-based hazards and risks, and can plan and carry out safety inspections.
  • You have previous experience working in the high-risk construction industry.
  • You can coordinate basic health and safety training and assist in identifying significant factors affecting project design, as well as help with design risk assessment.
  • You understand basic environmental risk management.
  • Rail experience is preferred.
