A prestigious law firm, Allen & Overy, is seeking an experienced individual to join its global Data Privacy Team as a Senior In-House Lawyer. This challenging role requires strong expertise in data privacy, information security, and data handling issues.

The Role

We are looking for a skilled lawyer with 4 to 6 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) to support the firm's Chief Privacy Officer in all aspects of data privacy work. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in providing directive and pragmatic advice on data privacy, information security, and data handling issues to a wide range of business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise and guide colleagues across the firm on privacy and data protection issues and policies
  • Provide input on data handling and governance issues
  • Assist in the support and maintenance of the existing global programme of measures designed to comply with privacy laws globally
  • Support data incident response
  • Establish and maintain good relations with key stakeholders, particularly in the APAC region, to help support and roll out changes to the privacy compliance programme and to promote and develop data governance best practice
  • Help to manage, support, and deliver work designed to comply with recent changes to data protection, privacy, and security laws in APAC and Europe
  • Conduct data privacy impact assessments
  • Work closely with a range of stakeholders on technology and data innovations to help ensure good data handling practices and privacy by design
  • Develop and deliver training and communication plans to drive and embed knowledge and awareness
  • Create and deliver presentations and reports
  • Help to create and maintain policies, guidance, and pro-forma documentation in connection with data protection compliance and data governance best practice within the firm
Requirements
  • A strong university degree
  • Strong experience in providing directive and pragmatic advice on data privacy, information security, and data handling issues to a wide range of business stakeholders
  • Experience of working in an international corporate or professional services environment
  • The ability to understand, explain, and advise on technical processes using business-friendly language
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office suite of applications and other software, such as eDiscovery or other specialist software)
  • A proven ability to work independently and proactively and to manage and prioritise a busy workload
  • Self-motivation and the ability to manage new and varied challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work well in a small team and on cross-departmental projects
Salary Range: $120,000 - $180,000 per year
