Infrastructure Engineer Role

We are seeking a skilled professional to implement, manage and retire infrastructure that supports our digital services. This role involves providing expert advice on ICT platform management and maintenance, working with key suppliers to ensure robust gateway infrastructure, and liaising with architecture and shared services to ensure the security of day-to-day operations.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing services using F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems, as well as experience with network infrastructure design and deployment including Cisco Data Centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches); routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).

  • Design, evaluate, and implement infrastructure requirements to meet future demand.
  • Provide expert technical support for project build, test and solution deployment activities.
  • Prepare, review and maintain documentation (design docs, implementation plans, test plans, support procedures).
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategies, operational policy and change initiatives.
  • Participate in change management and communicate end-to-end implications of configuration changes.
  • Provide detailed, specialist technical advice, including strategic guidance to senior executives.
  • Share knowledge and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Research emerging technologies and provide recommendations on product suitability for the agency.
  • Engage with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability.
  • Attend interagency meetings and forums to influence outcomes and share information.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and contribute to ICT strategy; manage and support change.
  • Manage operation of backup, high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Manage regular maintenance of patches and support packages across technical layers.
Requirements
  • At least five years demonstrated experience in design, management and maintenance of internet gateway and/or large-scale data centre networking environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in designing services using F5/Blue Coat Layer 4-7 switching/load balancing and proxy systems.
  • Experience with network infrastructure design and deployment including Cisco Data Centre technologies (ACI, routers, Nexus switches); routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
  • Experience with Palo Alto firewalls and IPS solutions.
  • Experience in VPN technologies, email and DNS (Infoblox) solutions.
  • Experience in design and integration of hybrid and public cloud services.
  • Experience in development and maintenance of system architecture and design documentation.
  • Knowledge of Australian Government information security policies, ASD Information Security Manual and Essential Eight.
