About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Mental Health Specialist Consultant to join our team at the Ministry of Defence (Defence Medical Services).

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and expertise in mental health services, ensuring high-quality care and support for Service Personnel and entitled civilians.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Providing effective mental health care with a recovery-based approach, including timely access to assessment, treatment, and occupational recommendations that meet individual needs and Chain of Command requirements.
  • Undertaking research in mental health and wellbeing.
  • Acting as a command liaison to support case management and organisational initiatives, including health promotion and welfare activities as resources allow.
  • Delivering clinical education to primary care staff to enhance their capabilities in managing mental health problems and supporting their responsibilities in addressing personnel wellbeing.

Requirements:

  • Certificate of Specialist Training or equivalent in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Current/recent clinical experience and ability to travel independently to places of duty.
  • GMC registration with a licence to practice and membership or fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent based on a foundation medical degree.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise, holding CCT and being on the Specialist Register.

What We Offer:

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of around £85,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits such as access to the NHS pension scheme, professional registration fees reimbursed, free parking, and on-site amenities like a gym and swimming pool.
