Postdoctoral Fellowship in Regional Circular Economy

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the International Society for Industrial Ecology. The successful candidate will have a strong background in industrial ecology, ecological economics, or a related field, and will be responsible for conducting research into the implementation of effective sustainability practices in regional circular economies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research into the implementation of effective sustainability practices in regional circular economies
  • Collaborate with leading scientists and government and industry partners to develop comprehensive material flow analyses and policy frameworks
  • Develop circular economy indicators and provide policy advice to enhance material sustainability in Australia
  • Conduct case studies at state and local government levels, consulting with stakeholders, policymakers, industry partners, and relevant researchers
  • Assess policy and data gaps and develop new methodologies to fill data gaps
  • Leverage insights from material flow accounts to identify opportunities to promote the circular economy across various levels of government

Requirements

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as industrial ecology, ecological economics, or environmental engineering
  • No more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience
  • Demonstrated experience in material flow accounting, environmentally extended input-output analysis, life cycle assessment, and policy analysis
  • Experience in modelling environmental flows in Python, R, Matlab, or equivalent programming languages
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research
