Position Overview

The Principal Consultant/Technical Director of Train Control & Signalling will report to the Operations Manager (QLD) and focus on providing engineering advisory and technical services to support the creation and growth of advanced train control capabilities within SYSTRA. This role will require applying engineering expertise across various rail infrastructure projects to ensure engineering excellence in an innovative and collaborative environment.

The Role
  1. Provide technical guidance during different stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility to design and from construction to system integration and commissioning.
  2. Develop and review technical deliverables, such as technical option reports, engineering principles, detail designs, and test procedures.
  3. Apply system engineering techniques to support the production of technical deliverables, including requirement traceability, system modeling, and configuration management.
  4. Collaborate with System Assurance teams to demonstrate that deployed systems are fit for purpose.
  5. Support business readiness teams to analyze and understand the impact of technical decisions on process and people aspects of the system.
  6. Work with clients to understand essential objectives and desired outcomes for each project.
Requirements and Experience
  1. Bachelor or higher-level qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline or Systems Engineering are essential.
  2. Working towards a chartered or equivalent professional status from a relevant Institution is required.
  3. 10-15 years' experience in Rail Signalling, Control Systems, or modern Train Control technologies is necessary.
  4. Demonstrated experience in feasibility, system, or preliminary design phases or system testing on a project of technical relevance is required.
  5. Experience in applying systems engineering techniques is essential.
  6. Experience of having worked in a project subject to Cenelec-based safety demonstration is necessary.
  7. A thorough knowledge of industry standards for Train Control Systems is required.
  8. The ability to work to timeframes with high organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with a self-motivated and proactive approach, is essential.
