Workshop Manager Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Workshop Manager to lead our team of Mechanics, Trades Assistants, and other team members responsible for maintaining and repairing our heavy commercial fleet.

This is a hands-on role that requires strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage the day-to-day activities of the workshop and ensure the reliable operation of our vehicle fleet.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for setting targets, analyzing performance, and making improvements to ensure smooth operations.
  • They will oversee and conduct preventative vehicle maintenance, as well as undertake maintenance and repair work on engines, transmissions, and rectify defects/faults in a timely manner.

In addition to their technical expertise, the Workshop Manager must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. They will also need to have a strong understanding of asset management systems, including the ability to learn and use ManagerPlus software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the workshop, including scheduling, personnel, and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve workshop performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Provide guidance, training, and coaching to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Qualified and experienced diesel mechanic with a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent qualification).
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with a focus on creating a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Able to identify maintenance countermeasures for predictable or emerging in-service failures.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capability in a dynamic and fast-paced transport environment.
  • Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in ManagerPlus software.
  • Excellent planning and organizational abilities, including the ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
