Laboratory Director

We are seeking a highly skilled Microbiology Scientist to join our team in the NSW Health Pathology Department at Liverpool Hospital.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical laboratory skills, a customer-focused approach, and attention to detail. Demonstrated experience in documentation and report writing, well-developed organisational and managerial abilities, and proven leadership capabilities are essential.

Exceptional communication and teaching skills are also critical. You will be part of a large, dedicated team of scientists and doctors delivering high-quality diagnostic services to patients across the South Western Sydney Local Health District.

• Manage scientific, technical and support staff, testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory.
• Oversee the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resources, business and resource management.

• Bachelor degree or higher in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Customer-focused approach with well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to communicate policies and procedures effectively with customers, patients and clinical/laboratory staff.
• Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of NSW and Australian accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems.
• Demonstrated managerial skills with experience in laboratory operations, administration and budgeting.
• Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of electronic-based Quality Management Systems.
• Extensive high-level knowledge of working within the relevant section of the laboratory, with knowledge of operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in a pathology laboratory.
• Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy.
