Job Description

**About the Role**

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal Environmental Consultant to join our team at MEC Mining. As a key member of our Environmental Services department, you will play a critical role in driving ESG excellence and delivering high-quality environmental solutions to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) to ensure compliance with national and international standards.
  • Provide strategic project approval advice to clients, leveraging your expertise in environmental management and regulatory frameworks.
  • Compile and edit environmental technical studies, reports, and other documents for clients, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Scope and manage multiple technical studies simultaneously, including project scheduling, skill selection, and quality control.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals, administering contracts and scopes of work as needed.
  • Plan and manage studies and associated sub-tasks, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
  • Proactively manage project changes, ensuring minimal disruption to clients and stakeholders.
  • Manage several complex projects in parallel, prioritizing tasks and resources to meet project milestones.
  • Market MEC Mining and develop business opportunities, leveraging your professional network and industry expertise.
  • Develop and maintain credible relationships with clients, regulators, and stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and issue resolution.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in environmental management, with a strong background in the resources sector.
  • Practical knowledge of Queensland, Northern Territory, and Commonwealth legislation, including the EP Act, SDPWO Act, MER (Financial Provisioning) Act, and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, report-writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously, maintain confidentiality, and remain solution-focused under pressure.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proven track record of coaching, mentoring, and leading teams to deliver quality outcomes.
  • Extensive professional relationships within the mining industry, with a talent for managing client relationships and business development.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a focus on corporate governance and industry expectations.
  • Formal qualifications in environmental management, science, or engineering disciplines, with a degree preferred.
