Visual Arts Teacher Job Description

Abbotsleigh School is seeking a skilled Visual Arts teacher to join our team on a fixed-term contract for one term. This role is ideal for a new graduate or those seeking a short-term job share arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a love for teaching and learning in Visual Arts, inspiring students to explore their creativity and express themselves through various mediums.
  • Exhibit strong knowledge and confidence in teaching Stages 4-5 Visual Arts. Experience in Stage 5 Photographic and Digital Media and Stage 6 is desirable.
  • Showcase sound experience in a variety of practical arts disciplines, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, design, ceramics, and both photo and digital media. A solid understanding of art history and art criticism.
  • Demonstrate proven competency in incorporating ICT into teaching practices, utilizing innovative methods that enhance creativity and resource development. Experience with Adobe software and the Canvas learning platform is highly desirable.
  • Be well-versed in contemporary teaching methodologies, particularly in understanding how girls learn, and how to achieve both conceptual and technical refinement in student work.
  • Respect and appreciate young people and their diverse learning needs, with a strong emphasis on learner engagement in Visual Arts.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and actively participate in art clubs, workshops, and activities, contributing to short-term objectives and enriching the school community.
