Position Overview

We are seeking a Category Specialist to enhance our dynamic Procurement team in Newcastle. Reporting directly to a Category Manager, you will play a crucial role in implementing Whitehaven Coal's Procurement strategy and managing tenders for goods and services during a pivotal phase for the organization. We value strong collaboration and are looking for team-oriented individuals to contribute to our cohesive team environment. These positions are full-time and permanent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage categories effectively
  • Lead contract negotiations
  • Negotiate supplier pricing
  • Analyze spending patterns
  • Mitigate commercial risks for the organization
  • Facilitate sustainable procurement practices
  • Occasional travel to operational sites may be necessary

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in Procurement, Category Management, or sourcing
  • Strong negotiation capabilities and experience in leading tenders
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Proficient computer skills, particularly in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with the mining, resources, or construction sectors is advantageous but not mandatory
