About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our busy local government team in Cairns.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the annual budget process, working closely with managers to ensure everyone understands their responsibilities and meets deadlines.

You will provide accurate reports to key stakeholders and stay up-to-date with laws and accounting standards.

Your role will also involve giving professional advice and support to meet the financial needs of both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Helping to organize, prepare, and review the yearly budget, including setting goals and tracking performance.
  • Creating monthly reports for management, analyzing differences from the budget, and explaining any variations.
  • Providing training and support on financial processes, systems, and interpreting financial information.
  • Preparing and recording financial entries, like monthly revenue and expense adjustments, internal charges, and prepayments.
  • Investigating and fixing issues related to project spending.
  • Helping resolve internal accounting or process problems.
  • Offering financial advice to help with decision-making and managing costs effectively, including handling grants.
  • Handling other tasks, like financial administration, grant management, and monthly financial reviews.
  • Contributing to the development of financial strategies to meet reporting needs.
  • Preparing account reconciliations.
  • Supporting operations with financial reports and project performance analysis.
Requirements
  • Possession of Bachelor level qualifications in Business or Commerce (Accounting)
  • Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA Australia), Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia) would be highly regarded.
  • 2 years experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in operating the TechOne Software
