Job Description:

The Hearing Support Officer role involves providing assistance to Tribunal decision makers and parties during hearings, recording and monitoring proceedings in accordance with the Recording of Evidence Act 1962, and performing general administrative tasks including drafting and issuing tribunal orders and facilitating appearances of parties attending proceedings.

Additionally, Hearing Support Officers may be required to travel within South-East Queensland for same-day return trips and overnight or up to two to five nights to support hearings in other court locations.

No formal qualifications or conditions are required to undertake this role; however, a C-class driver's license is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support Tribunal decision-makers in the hearing room by coordinating attendance of Tribunal users, managing exhibits during hearings, and utilizing telephone and video conferencing.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the recording and transcription services for QCAT proceedings in line with responsibilities under the Recording of Evidence Act 1962.
  • Provide accurate information to registry staff and Tribunal members in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Undertake accurate computer-based processing using QCAT's file management systems and recording programs, including drafting and issuing tribunal orders.
  • Prioritize tasks in a fast-paced and high-volume environment to enable the provision of effective hearing support services.
