Software Engineer Role

The Australian SKA Regional Centre (AusSRC) is a key component of the Square Kilometre Array Observatory, an international project to build the world's largest radio telescopes.

This role focuses on developing and maintaining software components that support data delivery and analysis for astronomical purposes.

A strong collaboration with project stakeholders, including scientists and technical staff, is necessary to determine needs and priorities.

  • Developing software components to coordinate and manage SKA data dissemination.
  • Participating in operational support by contributing to fault analysis and deployment of software components.
  • Sharing knowledge and experience to create software solutions and nurture innovation within the team.
  • Creating software solutions by exploring innovative ideas and approaches.
  • Initiating and maintaining collaborative relationships with external researchers and experts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement robust systems for astronomical data delivery and analysis.
  • Contribute to the development of scalable, high-performance systems that support data flow, processing, and user engagement.
  • Maintain strategic partnerships and deliver technical excellence.
  • Work closely with national and international collaborators to achieve project goals.

Requirements:

  • A relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent relevant work experience, in Computer Science and Programming.
  • Extensive experience developing distributed or enterprise software solutions.
  • Proven ability to identify and manage complex problems and adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including effective liaison with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in a computation-focused science domain, such as astronomy/radio astronomy, bioinformatics, genomics, geosciences, control systems, and their interfaces.

  • Formal software modeling and design techniques.
  • Cloud and containerization technologies.
  • Agile software development methodologies and practices.
  • High-performance computing (HPC) systems.
  • Programming languages.
