About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Technical Support Officer to join our Operations team at Australian Rail Track Corporation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance and operation of Heavy Plant Assets and other rail-bound plant across our network.

This is a field-based position that requires frequent travel and work on variable shift rosters. You will be required to reside within a 4-hour driving distance from Goulburn and be able to work away from home for extended periods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out inspections, servicing, scheduled maintenance, and breakdown repairs of Heavy Plant assets and other plant as directed.
  • Operate plant and equipment as required.
  • Maintain operational control of Heavy Plant assets during travel and work.
  • Provide clear operational direction and support to other operational personnel as needed.
  • Test machinery and ensure effective performance of core duties.
  • Advise and assist Senior Plant staff and Work Group Leader on potential issues affecting plant safety and/or performance.
  • Assist electricians, maintenance crews, and operators with fault diagnosis and repair.
  • Carry out approved modifications to Heavy Plant.
  • Provide input into decisions regarding plant repair, upgrade, and overhaul.
  • Supervise maintenance contractors as needed and contribute to the development of trade skills and knowledge of apprentices through mentoring, coaching, and education.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork/recordkeeping, including electronic asset management systems, to meet regulatory requirements and maintain systems integrity.
  • Participate in projects and undertake other duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Mechanical trade certificate relevant to the position.
  • Proven experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic systems.
  • Experience in maintaining heavy rail/earthmoving equipment.
  • Welding experience with MIG, ARC, and gas equipment.
  • Self-motivated and dedicated commitment to Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • Holder of a Class C driver's license.
  • Flexibility in relation to work hours and ability to travel away from home and work overtime as required by ARTC.
