At Life Without Barriers, we are committed to supporting children and young people in need of care. As a Family Support Specialist in our Burnie office, you will play a vital role in providing skilled casework support and supervision to foster carers and young people in the community.

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to develop and implement individualised care plans that meet the needs of children and young people. You will work in partnership with foster carers, relevant government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure the 'standards of care' required by the Tasmanian government are always met.

This is a permanent full-time position based at our office in Burnie, offering a tool of trade vehicle with a fuel card for your convenience. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake child-focused casework practice in partnership with relevant government agencies, children, and their families, carers, and other stakeholders.
  • Work in a CARE-informed way to understand the impact of trauma, loss, neglect, and abuse on children and young people.
  • Apply the CARE model to enable children to learn trust, life skills, form relationships, and gain resilience.
  • Build and strengthen carer skills on including children in decision-making and supporting them to reach their potential.
  • Perform case management functions as prescribed in specific contracts or funding agreements.
  • Negotiate with relevant government agencies to ensure each child/young person receives care that meets their needs for stability.

Skills & Experience:

  • Recognised social work qualifications with eligibility for membership of the AASW and/or a Bachelor of Psychology or other relevant qualification.
  • Experience in the child protection and out-of-home care sector.
  • Experience working with individuals, families, and communities from a strength-based, culturally appropriate perspective.
  • Experience identifying an individual's strengths and areas for improvement within the context of providing foster care with an emphasis on permanency.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Current driver's license.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks, including a National Criminal History Record Check and hold Tasmanian Working With Vulnerable People Registration.

Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
