Our organization is seeking an experienced professional to fill a challenging role within our environmental management team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing structured, risk-based environmental support across refinery and port operations.

This position is ideal for a professional with 3-5 years of mining, refining, or heavy industry experience, looking to bring their skills closer to home in a town-based position while maintaining exposure to complex environmental challenges.

  • Provide clear, practical environmental advice to operational teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations and standards.
  • Lead or contribute to investigations into environmental incidents, spills, and exceedances, applying root cause analysis and preparing defensible reports for senior management and regulators.
  • Coordinate and mentor technicians delivering groundwater, surface water, air quality, and noise monitoring programs, ensuring data integrity and timely reporting.
  • Support project planning, shutdowns, and infrastructure upgrades with structured risk assessments and control recommendations.
  • Facilitate internal and external audits, maintain compliance registers, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Deliver training sessions to embed environmental awareness across all workgroups.
  • Engage with regulators and external stakeholders as required, representing the organization in a professional, solution-focused manner.

Key qualifications include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in environmental compliance within mining, refining, or other heavy industry operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation and regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Proven track record leading or supporting structured incident investigations and risk management programs.
  • Proficient in environmental data management systems, with strong analytical skills.
  • Effective communicator, confident in liaising with site teams, contractors, and regulators.
  • Current manual driver's licence (boat licence desirable).
