System Software Engineer Role

The Azure Core Storage team is responsible for delivering the Storage Virtualization platform to Azure Virtual Machines.

We own the entire software stack on the Azure host that handles virtual machine input/output operations, caching mechanisms, throttling controls, Quality of Service for Azure Virtual Machines, multiple transport layers, and encryption of data both in transit and at rest.

This role will design and implement software components to enable and optimize storage solutions in Azure fleet.

Responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders to determine user requirements, driving identification of dependencies, creating and implementing code, leveraging subject-matter expertise, acting as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), and proactively seeking new knowledge and adapting to new trends.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to determine user requirements.

  • Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code.
  • Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI).

Requirements

Essential qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field, 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, 4+ years experience in system software, storage protocols, networking concepts, and operating system internals, and 4+ years of handling periodic live service on-call responsibilities.
